Allameh Tabataba'i University is one of the leading public universities in Tehran, the capital of Iran, and the largest specialized institute in the country in the fields of humanities, social sciences, and management, with a foundation and history spanning approximately 60 years. The university is named after the renowned Iranian philosopher and scholar Allameh Tabataba'i.
It was formed through the merger of various independent higher education institutions, including universities, faculties, research centers, and institutes, which were gradually established since 1958. These were eventually combined into two university complexes: the College of Literature and Humanities and the College of Administrative and Commercial Sciences.
These complexes, each operating independently for over five years, were merged to form ATU on July 7, 1984, based on the approval of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution. It is also worth mentioning that after the founding of ATU, it had several educational centers located in other cities and offered programs beyond the humanities.
However, in 1987, with the separation of the educational centers, the Faculty of Health and Basic Sciences, as well as the Central Library, became part of Payame Noor University. Today, ATU is one of the most prestigious public universities in Iran, attracting a large number of international students in Iran, with nearly 18,000 students, 500 full-time faculty members, and 12 faculties. The university's faculty members are renowned experts in the field of humanities, further enriching the institution.
